School education

The founding idea of our association is to enable children in need to attend school. Although school education has officially been free in Kenya since 2003, the reality is unfortunately very different. Firstly, there are far too few public schools, especially in the slums, and secondly, fees for school uniforms, for example, have to be paid even there. As a result, many of the children either do not go to school at all or not permanently. In addition, many families go into debt to enable their children to attend school in the hope that they will soon find work (again). Attending school in Kenya not only means education and the associated opportunity for social participation and advancement, but it also means two meals a day (porridge in the morning - ugali/rice/beans in the afternoon) - which is unfortunately not a matter of course for these children!

So how do we manage to send the children to school?

The answer is Teddy & Joseph! The two of them are very well connected locally and regularly receive reports of the fates of these children. As we are unfortunately not (yet) able to enable all children to attend school, we have developed an evaluation form together which results in a ranking or waiting list.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we have already been able to send over 100 children to school less than six months after our association was founded in 2024!

And what exactly do we pay with the money entrusted to us?

Admission and school fees, examination fees, school uniform, books, school meals and school debts, if any (many schools accommodate us and forgive “our” children a considerable part of the accumulated debt). What we do not pay: Pens, exercise books, excursions.

Library

Teddy and Joseph had the idea of opening a library that would be open to all children and be a place where children could receive support with their learning - regardless of whether they were currently attending school or not. We were able to turn this vision into reality in Korogocho in February 2025! The children now have a place to learn, do their homework and play in a space of around 15m². We painted the small room, installed electricity, had furniture built on site and set up the library with Teddy, Joseph and some of their friends.

There is still only a manageable selection of books here. These are mainly school books, which neither the families nor the schools in the slums can provide. However, we have also bought a few storybooks and simple novels. We also brought donated second-hand games from Germany. The library has already been very well received and the children come in large numbers after school. Some schools also want to take turns using the room in the mornings for their lessons. At the weekend, Teddy and his friends cook porridge for the children who visit the library. This means we can provide at least one meal at the weekend. We would like to expand our library even further in the future and buy more books. In the future, the installation of WiFi (11 euros/month) and a laptop would also be great. The children have no access to the internet and therefore have extremely limited research opportunities. We would also like to offer a tutoring program for the school vacations. We would also be happy to work with qualified teachers. You can also find out about the latest progress via our Instagram channel.
